This Lonely Clay series is a limited collection of life-size ceramic matchboxes. Three unique designs inspired by the sun and the myths of ancient cultures.
Across ancient cultures, the myths about the sun’s daily journey are surprisingly similar.
This kindred story is the inspiration for this Lonely Clay series.
The story goes like…
Each day the sun rises out of its ocean dwelling and slowly begins its journey across the sky.
Along its journey, the sun encounters the great serpent (Apep in Egyptian mythology), who desires darkness and disorder, and so the sun must quarrel with the serpent to maintain the light.
All the while, earthbound sunflowers (Clytie, transformed by the Greek Gods) gently rotate their heavy heads with the sun as it crosses the sky.
And once the sun has descended into its watery home, its powerful feminine moon emerges to sleep beside her earthly lover (Selene, Greek mythology).
With intention and compliments, each matchbox arrives in custom packaging, illustrated and designed by SDCO for Lonely Clay.
